Phased Reopening of Lake Magdalene UMC (Starting 6/21/20)
Lake Magdalene UMC has begun a phased reopening. Below are the guidelines and special considerations for this soft reopening.
Opening Date: Soft Open on Sunday, June 21st
Time: We will continue to keep the same worship time: 9:30 AM & 11 AM Traditional Services and 11 AM Genesis Contemporary Service. We will continue to produce an online service concurrent with the 9:30 AM Traditional Service and the 11 AM Genesis Contemporary Service until livestreaming is available.
Order of Service: Our worship services will be of a shortened duration during the first few weeks of our reopening.
Seating: You will only be able to sit in designated areas throughout the Sanctuary and Heritage Hall. In the Sanctuary, seating will be clearly marked with blue painters tape. Chairs will be set up socially distant in Heritage Hall. A minimum of six feet between individual worshipers should be followed. Couples and families are allowed to sit together.
Music: Music will be limited in the first few weeks of our reopening.
Masks: Masks are highly encouraged for all worshipers.
Giving: Offering containers will be located in the entry and exit areas so that you can bring your tithe and offerings. No offering plates will be passed. We will encourage online giving.
Distancing: All persons who attend worship are asked to remain at least six feet from other worshipers at all times. Couples and families are allowed to sit together. We ask that there be no physical touching, handshaking, or hugging.
Capacity: Lake Magdalene UMC will follow standards set by the state of Florida, the CDC, and The Florida Conference of the UMC in determining a functioning capacity in our Sanctuary and Heritage Hall at any given time. Once that capacity is reached, we will not allow any other persons to enter.
Restrooms: We will limit the capacity of each restroom. The restrooms will be cleaned prior to, after and between each service in the Sanctuary and Heritage Hall. We will keep a stock of disinfectant and cleaning supplies for anyone to use throughout services.
Sanctuary/ Heritage Hall: Prior to, after and between each service the Sanctuary and Heritage Hall will be sanitized. All surfaces and pews will be wiped down with sanitizing solutions. All coffee stations will be closed. Lake Magdalene UMC will provide hand sanitizer stations at each entrance.
Departure: We ask that you remain seated until you are directed to leave. We ask that you not congregate at the entry/exit ways. Upon leaving worship you are encouraged to communicate with other worshipers, keeping safe distances and congregating outside the normal walkways, as not to block congregates who are passing by.
Nursery, Children Ministry & Student Ministries: No Nursery, Children’s Ministry, and Student Ministries will be provided separate from worship services. Families are encouraged to worship together in the Sanctuary and/or Heritage Hall. We will continue to offer Zoom programming each Wednesday evening and Sunday mornings.
Adult Discipleship & Caring Ministries: There will be no small group on-campus Bible studies, Sunday School classes, or Caring Ministries meetings until further notice. Some classes will continue via Zoom.
Phase II: Reintroducing Small Groups (Starting 7/1/20)
Equipment for live streaming has been ordered. Due to demand, this equipment will take longer to receive. We will continue to keep you updated on this project. Pre-recorded worship services will continue until we have live streaming in place.
We will offer communion on the first Sunday of the month (July 5th). We will place 6 foot markers for congregation members to follow leading up to the communion table. Communion Ushers will wear masks and gloves.
Communion will also be offered virtually. We ask viewers to provide their own bread and wine/juice.
Small Groups and Events
We are beginning to reopen small group spaces. All groups will be required to follow the Reopening Guidelines set by the Task Force on Reopening.
- Adult and Caring Ministries
If your small group is interested in meeting on campus, an electronic scheduling form will be available starting July 1st. Please complete this form and we will process each group on a first come, first serve basis.
All groups will meet for a maximum of 1 hour and assist with cleaning (wipe down chairs, tables, and doorknobs) after each meeting. Food or drinks are not permitted at this time.
- Student Ministries
Our Student Ministries will begin meeting on Sunday, July 19th.
- Children's Ministry
Our Children's Ministry will continue to provide a virtual experience on Sunday mornings.
- Outside Groups and Special Events
At this time, we will not be scheduling outside groups and special events.
Individuals who have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive or are symptomatic should not attend and continue to utilize online ministries at this time.
Individuals who have traveled internationally or to a domestic hot spot in the past 2 weeks should not attend and continue to utilize online ministries at this time.
While no one will be turned away, except with one exception (see ‘Capacity’) until we have community information about contagion rates during the re-opening period of the broader Tampa Bay area community, we are encouraging older members and those with underlying health conditions to remain at home and continue utilizing online ministries at this time.
